SUMMARY:Calle Malaga
DESCRIPTION:“A lovely and very sweet film about a vibrant elderly Spanish woman Maria Angeles born in Morocco whose daughter sells her flat out from under her and leaves her in an old age home. Her whole life turned upside down\, she escapes the home\, moves back into her flat\, rebuys her furniture from an elderly man who seems uncaring\, and starts to make a living holding soccer match viewing parties with the local men who adore soccer – feeding them and charging a fee. In the meantime the furniture seller and Maria begin a late life affair that rekindles something in both. One of the fine details of the film is that Maria visits her friend\, a nun Josefa who has taken a vow of silence\, but to whom Maria spills out all her feelings about what’s happening to her. The other great thing about the film is that Maria Angeles is played by the incomparable Carmen Maura who easily commands the screen now as much as she did when she became an international star in the early films of Pedro Almodovar. Her performance is brilliant\, subtle and deeply emotional. She deserves an Oscar nomination for this performance. ” -Paul Barnes \n\n\n\n\n\n\n116 minutes \n\n\n\n\n\n\nLanguages: Spanish\, Arabic (English Subtitles)

SUMMARY:Pillion
DESCRIPTION:Dir. Harry Lighton – 2026 – 107m \n\n\nStarring Harry Melling & Alexander Skarsgård – A timid man is swept off his feet when an enigmatic\, impossibly handsome biker takes him on as his submissive. \n“An absolute triumph both in its aspirations and execution.” – Brian Bromberger\, Bay Area Reporter \n“Easily the more satisfying film because it avoids cliches for something  more psychologically astute. Colin and Ray’s relationship is depicted  with real poignance because the film respects who they are as  individuals without judgment.” – Alan Zilberman\, Washington City Paper \n“Neither Lighton nor his movie turns this lifestyle into a voyeuristic  sideshow; instead\, Pillion relies on finely attuned performances and  nuanced emotional stakes to enrich a thoughtful\, sensitive drama about  self-discovery.” – Brian Eggert\, Deep Focus Review

SUMMARY:Billy Preston: That’s The Way God Planned It
DESCRIPTION:Featuring never-before-seen archival footage\, studio outtakes\, and rare photos\, Billy Preston: That’s the Way God Planned It is an exhilarating documentary about the legendary GRAMMY-winning musician whose signature sound shaped the work of The Beatles\, The Rolling Stones\, Ray Charles\, Sly Stone\, Aretha Franklin\, and countless others. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nBilly Preston was perhaps the most unsung musical hero of his time. Born in Houston\, Texas\, in 1946\, he arrived in Los Angeles with his family three years later. At just 5 years old\, he was backing gospel legend Mahalia Jackson. By age 10\, he was appearing with Ray Charles on film\, and by age 15\, he was touring with Little Richard in Hamburg\, Germany\, where he met Richard’s opening act — The Beatles. He would later perform and record with the biggest names in music\, including The Beatles\, The Rolling Stones\, Eric Clapton\, Barbra Streisand\, Johnny Cash\, Neil Diamond\, the Red Hot Chili Peppers\, and countless others. He generated his own unforgettable No. 1 hits\, including “Outa-Space\,” “Will It Go Round in Circles\,” “Nothing from Nothing\,” and “You Are So Beautiful” — and his first hit single in 1969\, on The Beatles’ Apple Records\, “That’s The Way God Planned It\,” produced by his lifelong friend\, George Harrison. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nBut Billy had quietly held secrets about his sexuality and early sexual abuse\, known to very few in his life\, which tormented him his entire life\, affecting not only his well-being and relationships but also influencing his career choices. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nIt is the interweaving of these complicated aspects of this wonderful musician’s life with his extraordinary musical career that Emmy-winning director Paris Barclay has so thoughtfully crafted in Billy Preston: That’s the Way God Planned It.

SUMMARY:Women On The Verge Of A Nervous Breakdown
DESCRIPTION:March 20 All day\nJoin us as we begin a CCA retrospective of the works of Pedro Almodóvar. \nStay tuned for dates and details for this special summer programing series. We are taking the opportunity here to connect with the muse of many Almodóvar films\, Carmen Maura\, in her stellar performance in Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown\, as well as a her current film Calle Malaga. Be sure to see both! \nMelding melodrama with screwball farce\, this Academy Award–nominated black comedy was Pedro Almodóvar’s international breakthrough and secured his place at the vanguard of modern Spanish cinema. Continuing the auteur’s exploration of the female psyche\, Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown tells the story of Pepa—played by the director’s frequent collaborator Carmen Maura—who resolves to kill herself with a batch of sleeping-pill-laced gazpacho after her lover leaves her. Fortunately\, she is interrupted by a deliciously chaotic series of events. The filmmaker channeled Hollywood inspiration into his own unique vision\, arriving at the irreverent humor and vibrant visual sense that define his work today. With an exceptional ensemble cast that also includes Antonio Banderas and Rossy de Palma\, this film shows an artist in total control of his craft.

SUMMARY:Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore (1974)
DESCRIPTION:Dir. Martin Scorsese – 1974 – 112m \n\n\nWhen her husband is killed in a car crash\, Alice (Ellen Burstyn) leaves her home in Socorro\, New Mexico and heads west with her son Tommy (Alfred Lutter)\, determined to return to her home town of Monterey in California and make her own way in life as an independent woman. SUMMARY:Cronos (1993)
DESCRIPTION:Dir. Guillermo del Toro – 1993 – 93m – Mexico – In Spanish with English subtitles \n\n\nGuillermo del Toro made an auspicious and audacious feature debut with Cronos\, a highly unorthodox tale about the seductiveness of the idea of immortality. Kindly antiques dealer Jesús Gris (Federico Luppi) happens upon an ancient golden device in the shape of a scarab\, and soon finds himself the possessor and victim of its sinister\, addictive powers\, as well as the target of a mysterious American named Angel (a delightfully crude and deranged Ron Perlman). Featuring marvelous makeup effects and the haunting imagery for which del Toro has become world-renowned\, Cronos is a dark\, visually rich\, and emotionally captivating fantasy. \n“Rightly acclaimed\, the film boasts more than enough transcendent moments to secure its status as a modern horror classic.” – Rob Gonsalves\, Rob’s Movie Vault \n“Surprises with its sophisticated and spirited look at a tale straight from the crypt.” – Kenneth Turan \nLos Angeles Times \n“A compelling\, complex and wonderfully  atmospheric film from Mexican director Guillermo del Toro that is as  much about religion and the nature of cinema as it is a horror story.” – David Parkinson\, Radio Times

SUMMARY:The Moment
DESCRIPTION:Dir. Aidan Zamiri – 2026 – 103m \n\n\nStarring Charli xcx (and based on her idea!)\, Rosanna Arquette\, Kate Berlant\,Jamie Demetriou\, Arielle Dombasle\, Hailey Benton Gates\, Kylie Jenner\, Trew Mullen\, Mel Ottenberg\, Isaac Powell\, Rachel Sennott\, Rish Shah\, Alexander Skarsgård\, Michael Workéyè – A rising pop star navigates the complexities of fame and industry pressure while preparing for her arena tour debut. \n“A blistering take-down of the social media-driven celebrity culture … combines the anxiety-inducing mayhem of If I Had Legs I’d Kick  You and the omnishambles clusterfuck of The Thick of It.” – Stephen A. Russell\, Time Out \n“What we see was fabricated\, but all of it is plausible. The mockumentary is very funny and also honest. Charli XCX has a great sense of humor. By poking fun at herself\, she just extended the life of the Brat lifestyle. You got us.” – Joe Friar\, Fort Worth Report
