SUMMARY:Spacewoman
DESCRIPTION:Eileen Collins is the first woman to pilot and command the space shuttle. From her small town beginnings\, she went on to smash many glass ceilings at NASA in her career\, culminating in four dramatic and dangerous space shuttle missions. Through sensational archival materials and intimate interviews\, Hannah Berryman’s nail-biting film considers the emotional drama Eileen’s family experienced\, and a philosophical question about what level of risk is acceptable in human endeavor. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nRuntime: 95min

SUMMARY:Pompei: Below The Clouds
DESCRIPTION:From award-winning filmmaker Gianfranco Rosi comes Pompei: Below the Clouds\, a striking portrait of life in Naples\, a city living in the shadow of Vesuvius. SUMMARY:Calle Malaga
DESCRIPTION:“A lovely and very sweet film about a vibrant elderly Spanish woman Maria Angeles born in Morocco whose daughter sells her flat out from under her and leaves her in an old age home. Her whole life turned upside down\, she escapes the home\, moves back into her flat\, rebuys her furniture from an elderly man who seems uncaring\, and starts to make a living holding soccer match viewing parties with the local men who adore soccer – feeding them and charging a fee. In the meantime the furniture seller and Maria begin a late life affair that rekindles something in both. One of the fine details of the film is that Maria visits her friend\, a nun Josefa who has taken a vow of silence\, but to whom Maria spills out all her feelings about what’s happening to her. The other great thing about the film is that Maria Angeles is played by the incomparable Carmen Maura who easily commands the screen now as much as she did when she became an international star in the early films of Pedro Almodovar. Her performance is brilliant\, subtle and deeply emotional. She deserves an Oscar nomination for this performance. ” -Paul Barnes \n\n\n\n\n\n\n116 minutes \n\n\n\n\n\n\nLanguages: Spanish\, Arabic (English Subtitles)

SUMMARY:Hello Dankness - A Soda Jerk Reveal
DESCRIPTION:Dir. Soda Jerk – 2022 – 70m \n\n\n One heckuva political fable that bears witness to the psychotropic spectacle of American politics from 2016 to 2021\, and the mythologies and lore that took root around it. Taking form as a suburban stoner musical\, the film follows a neighborhood through these years as consensus reality disintegrates into conspiracy and other contagions. What unfolds is a rogue retelling of history in which hotdogs debate the culture wars\, trashcans preach QAnon\, zombies rally for revolution\, and real events are refashioned as Broadway bangers from Cats\, Les Miserables\, Annie\, and The Phantom of the Opera.

SUMMARY:Women On The Verge Of A Nervous Breakdown
DESCRIPTION:March 20 All day\nJoin us as we begin a CCA retrospective of the works of Pedro Almodóvar. \nStay tuned for dates and details for this special summer programing series. We are taking the opportunity here to connect with the muse of many Almodóvar films\, Carmen Maura\, in her stellar performance in Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown\, as well as a her current film Calle Malaga. Be sure to see both! \nMelding melodrama with screwball farce\, this Academy Award–nominated black comedy was Pedro Almodóvar’s international breakthrough and secured his place at the vanguard of modern Spanish cinema. Continuing the auteur’s exploration of the female psyche\, Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown tells the story of Pepa—played by the director’s frequent collaborator Carmen Maura—who resolves to kill herself with a batch of sleeping-pill-laced gazpacho after her lover leaves her. Fortunately\, she is interrupted by a deliciously chaotic series of events. The filmmaker channeled Hollywood inspiration into his own unique vision\, arriving at the irreverent humor and vibrant visual sense that define his work today. With an exceptional ensemble cast that also includes Antonio Banderas and Rossy de Palma\, this film shows an artist in total control of his craft.

SUMMARY:Billy Preston: That’s The Way God Planned It
DESCRIPTION:Featuring never-before-seen archival footage\, studio outtakes\, and rare photos\, Billy Preston: That’s the Way God Planned It is an exhilarating documentary about the legendary GRAMMY-winning musician whose signature sound shaped the work of The Beatles\, The Rolling Stones\, Ray Charles\, Sly Stone\, Aretha Franklin\, and countless others. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nBilly Preston was perhaps the most unsung musical hero of his time. Born in Houston\, Texas\, in 1946\, he arrived in Los Angeles with his family three years later. At just 5 years old\, he was backing gospel legend Mahalia Jackson. By age 10\, he was appearing with Ray Charles on film\, and by age 15\, he was touring with Little Richard in Hamburg\, Germany\, where he met Richard’s opening act — The Beatles. He would later perform and record with the biggest names in music\, including The Beatles\, The Rolling Stones\, Eric Clapton\, Barbra Streisand\, Johnny Cash\, Neil Diamond\, the Red Hot Chili Peppers\, and countless others. He generated his own unforgettable No. 1 hits\, including “Outa-Space\,” “Will It Go Round in Circles\,” “Nothing from Nothing\,” and “You Are So Beautiful” — and his first hit single in 1969\, on The Beatles’ Apple Records\, “That’s The Way God Planned It\,” produced by his lifelong friend\, George Harrison. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nBut Billy had quietly held secrets about his sexuality and early sexual abuse\, known to very few in his life\, which tormented him his entire life\, affecting not only his well-being and relationships but also influencing his career choices. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nIt is the interweaving of these complicated aspects of this wonderful musician’s life with his extraordinary musical career that Emmy-winning director Paris Barclay has so thoughtfully crafted in Billy Preston: That’s the Way God Planned It.

There are songs and dancing\, moments of menace and melancholy\, shitposting and deep sincerity. Created with Soda Jerk’s signature methodology\, Hello Dankness is entirely composed of sampled media. Utilizing extensive rotoscoping and digital VFX\, the feature length narrative has been grafted together from almost one thousand film\, television and audio sources. \n“Fantastic. It is the best kind of satire in that it eviscerates its targets while being intelligent and hilarious.” – Sean Fallon\, Film Inquiry \n“How did we get from It’s a Wonderful Life to Qanon? Hard to describe\, but making an indelible impression\, this ingenious construct becomes a devastating indictment of a corrupt system…” –  Dennis Harvey\, 48 Hills

SUMMARY:WTO/99
DESCRIPTION:Dir. Ian Bell – 2026 – 102m \n\n\nDOUBLE FEATURED (2 MOVIES FOR THE PRICE OF ONE\, SEE ONE OR BOTH FOR THE SAME PRICE) WITH SODA JERK’S BRILLIANT & ENTERTAININGLY INSIGHTFUL MOCK CUT UP HELLO DANKNESS! \nAn immersive archival documentary that reanimates the clash between the then-emerging World Trade Organization (WTO) and the more than 40\,000 people who took to the streets of Seattle to protest the WTO’s impact on human rights\, the environment\, labor\, and the future impacts of continued globalization. \n“Brilliantly makes the case for the Seattle WTO protests as a watershed moment in modern history—one with urgent significance in understanding issues we face today. The militarization of the police\, the proliferation of right-wing media and fake news\, the collapse of our democracy into fascism\, and the ever-growing power of multinational corporations all seem to be taking hold before our eyes in this film. WTO/99 accomplishes this convincingly and artfully\, seamlessly weaving together primary sources in a bravura manner” – Eric Allen Hatch \n“Watching “WTO/99” is like peering into a portal to the future.” – New York Times \n“The film is absolutely remarkable…I felt like I was reliving something but also living it for the very first time.” – John Ridley\, Deadline’s Doc Talk Podcast  \n“It’s an important film for today\, and a reminder of how neoliberal anti-labor\, anti-environmental policies have brought us here.” – Filmmaker Magazine \n“WTO/99 is nothing short of a galvanizing historical document that tells us exactly how we arrived on the crumbling ground we’re presently standing on.” – RogerEbert.com
