SUMMARY:Eric Johnson
DESCRIPTION:One of the most outstanding instrumentalists in rock over the past 40 years\, Texas guitarist Eric Johnson was already a legend before he recorded his first album. By the early 1980s\, many celebrated guitarists were singing the praises of this skinny kid from Austin with the mind-melting chops. Comparisons were made to such guitar heroes as Jeff Beck and Jimi Hendrix and when he joined the ’70s Austin fusion band Electromagnets they were being hailed as “the Mahavishnu Orchestra of Texas.” With the release of his highly-anticipated 1986 solo debut album Tones\, the underground guitar legend finally emerged onto the scene fully-formed.

They haven’t been able to mount an honest scam since the 2008 financial crisis and now face the impending mediocrity of middle age. The return of an exiled partner-in-crime from Argentina affords a second chance for long-buried riches\, but can Carlobianchi and Doriano put down their beers long enough to keep their eyes on the prize? Along their slow motion\, alcoholic grand tour of the Venetian countryside\, they cross paths with Giulio\, a shy architecture student who reluctantly warms to the sodden pair and indulges their rants about the folly of globalization and the slow decline of local color. Each roadside tavern offers the promise of one last drink – unless the next one ups the ante. \nFrancesco Sossai’s dazzling sophomore feature is many things at once: a road movie\, a casual caper\, a tribute to a vanishing industrial Italy\, a scruffy intergenerational odyssey\, and free-flowing bender through time and space. \n“A Pleasant Italian Gem on Drinking Buddies\, Aging and Wistful Flavors of Life … Loose-limbed and quietly enchanting … Brings to mind the fable-adjacent films of Alice Rohrwacher”- Tomris Laffly\, Variety \n“A vivid portrait of a place ravaged by time … This comedy-drama has humour\, a heart and a melancholic streak.” – Boyd van Hoeij\, Screen International \n“Bracingly alive … Nothing short of exhilarating … Vivid and perceptive snapshot of a place that’s falling indelibly into the past.” – Leonardo Goi\, Filmmaker Magazine \n“One of the most charming films of the year. Quietly devastating.” – Alex Papaioannou\, InSession Film \n“A grungy love letter to the Veneto region of Italy” – Anzhe Zhang\, Slant Magazine

Christian Petzold – 2026 – 86m – Germany – In German with English subtitles – Valid for Punch Cards \n\n\nDuring a weekend trip to the countryside\, Laura\, a young piano student from Berlin\, miraculously survives a shocking car crash. However\, they cannot outrun the ghosts of the past\, which begin to stir\, as acclaimed director Christian Petzold (PHOENIX\, TRANSIT) spins a modern gothic fairytale about the lies we tell ourselves and the strange ways that grief\, connection\, and humanity bind and sustain us. \n“A gorgeous showcase for actress Paula Beer.” – Ryan Lattanzio\, IndieWire \n“Petzold remains one of cinema’s most mesmerizing artists.” – Nick Schager\, The Daily Beast \n“Quietly haunting…another worthy entry in his series of contemporary ghost stories.” – Brad Hanford\, Slant

SUMMARY:Jake Xerxes Fussell w/ Trummors
DESCRIPTION:JAKE XERXES FUSSELL\nReared in Georgia and now settled in North Carolina\, Jake Xerxes Fussell has established himself as a devoted listener and contemplative interpreter of a vast array of so-called folk songs\, lovingly sourced from a personal store of favorites. He has released five studio albums to-date\, beginning with his self-titled debut album\, released by Paradise of Bachelors in 2015. \nHis most recent studio album When I’m Called was produced by James Elkington and features the playing of Ben Whiteley (The Weather Station)\, Joe Westerlund (Bon Iver\, Califone)\, and others. Blake Mills contributes guitars on several tracks. Joan Shelley and Robin Holcomb provide backing vocals. In their review of the record\, Pitchfork wrote: “No other American singer is repurposing our old folk scripts with so much authority or ingenuity.” \nMore recently\, Fussell and Elkington collaborated on the music for Rebuilding – a feature film directed by Max Walker-Silverman and starring Josh O’Connor. A soundtrack of the same name was released on Fat Possum Records in November 2025. \n“Critics love to call things unclassifiable\, which can sometimes feel like a subtle admission of defeat. But Jake Xerxes Fussell’s music\, which draws heavily from nineteenth- and twentieth-century vernacular folk songs and archival field recordings\, is idiomatic\, and entirely his own…he is a folksinger in the truest sense\, collecting ideas and melodies and lyrics from distant and disparate traditions\, looking for the things that unite us in our humanity.” – The New Yorker \n“(Fussell) is one of the great magpies of American song\, collecting forgotten\, tarnished gems with a folklorist’s zeal…” – The Guardia \n“…maybe the leading interpreter of American folk music right now.” – Ann Powers\, NPR \nTRUMMORS\nThe trouble with so much Cosmic American Music is that it’s not all that ‘cosmic’ at all. The moves are there—the mood\, the ingredients\, musical and (ahem) otherwise\, the clothes—but the substance too often comes up a little thin. Maybe that’s fine: the Flamin’ Groovies weren’t quite the Beatles either\, and so to criticize the heirs of the Flying Burrito Brothers for failing to equal their forebears’ sense of stoned celestial wonder feels a little mingy\, like criticizing tomorrow for not being 1972. Enter David Lerner and Anne Cunningham’s duo Trummors\, though\, with their fifth and possibly best album—“possibly” only because the others\, too\, are so damn good—to blow this frequent quibble clean out of the water. 5 (yeah\, they went ahead and made their Numerical Album\, just like J.J. Cale once did) is so fresh\, so sparkling\, and so lovely\, whatever debts it owes to anybody else are immediately canceled. This may be music with an abundant sense of history\, a deep\, almost Talmudic knowledge of a thousand country rock records\, but it steps outside the shadow of that knowledge with a confidence that feels rare indeed. \nSome of that is in the writing. A song like “Hey Babe” might seem a wisp of a thing\, until you listen twice and clock lyrics as fatalistic\, and as beautifully compressed\, as a Robert Creeley poem\, coupled with a melody that feels like it’s lived inside you forever. Some of that is in the performances\, the way Lerner and Cunningham’s vocals fit together just so\, as ideally paired as George and Tammy’s as they float atop accompaniments from their supporting players—Dan Horne’s spacious pedal steel on “Yellow Spanish Roses\,” say\, or C.J. Burnett’s spare\, not-quite-barroom-feeling piano on “The Jalisco Kid”—that somehow manage to be at once understated and arresting. Some of it might be the occasional ways they make subtle adjustments to genre conventions (“Cosmic Monster” sounds closer to English psych monsters Dantalian’s Chariot than it does to canyon country\, thanks to Clay Finch’s electric sitar) without sounding schizoid or breaking faith with the record’s overriding mood and identity. But none of that really accounts for 5’s startling and unshakeable immediacy\, its ability to cut through the fog in one’s head and one’s mood every time it comes pouring out of the speakers. \nLerner and Cunningham lived with these songs a long while\, writing them before the Pandemic struck in 2020\, demoing them at home repeatedly before finally deciding to get together with Horne—an alumnus of previous records\, too\, as a player—in the producer’s chair for the first time. They tracked the record in LA over the span of about a week\, did a bit of overdubbing later in Taos\, and thus\, after that long period of uncertainty\, 5 arrived at its final form fairly quickly. Maybe it’s this paradox\, this meeting of speed and deliberation\, that gets at the record’s most striking quality\, how these songs feel at once heavy and light\, ancient and new\, like something carved into stone with a feather. It’s a quality that fills me with admiration. Indeed\, with something close to awe. \n—Matthew Specktor\, Los Angeles\, 2024

SUMMARY:Telehealth
DESCRIPTION:An exciting opportunity to invest in the music industry \n\n\n\n\nThis is a draft! Please tear apart after reading. \nLed by Alexander Attitude\, Telehealth is an unpredictable pop band with heavy nods to post-punk\, minimal synth\, egg-punk\, new wave\, art rock\, glam\, and krautrock. \nTelehealth wears the color green to remind us all that the American pedagogy\, which has become so focused on selling green as a product to alleviate the symptoms of a self-inflicted hellscape. Instead of being upset\, Telehealth embraces uncertainty and absurdity. \nTelehealth is a joke\, but it is not a joke. As a product itself\, Telehealth is here to remind us that everything is a product placement. Telehealth is an industry plant. Just as religion is the opium of the masses\, Telehealth is now the opium of architects\, policymakers\, technocrats\, AND NOW MUSICIANS! \nTelehealth embraces technology. Although the future is much stupider than originally advertised\, Telehealth works together with the world’s largest and most innovative corporations to offer solutions. The world is sick!!! Telehealth aims to relieve the painful symptoms of modern dread. \nEach Telehealth performance is driven to suspend disbelief about change\, but it is also a way of making-do of this dystopian reality we live in. Telehealth is a way of thinking and questioning our world and our place within it. \nThat is all to say\, Telehealth is not a famous band\, but they are trying to become a famous band. \nTelehealth is a for profit company.

SUMMARY:TOPS w/ Riki
DESCRIPTION:TOPS\nTOPS — musicians David Carriere\, Jane Penny\, Marta Cikojevic\, and Riley Fleck — write timeless music that reliably threads immediacy and depth. Bury the Key\, their first full-length since 2020 and with new label home Ghostly International\, is a captivating reintroduction for the Montréal band: ever refined\, undoubtedly masters of their melodic craft yet unafraid of evolving and testing themselves against different\, at times darker tones. The album faces feelings once locked away\, engaging the give-and-take between happiness\, hedonism\, and self-destruction. While often inhabited by fictional figures\, their glowing\, grooving\, self-produced songs draw from personal observations: intimacy (both inside and outside the band)\, toxic behavior\, drug use\, and apocalyptic dread. When recording started\, they noticed a shift and leaned in\, jokingly dubbed “evil TOPS\,” says Penny. “We’re always kind of seen as a soft band or like naive or friendly in a Canadian way\, but we made it a challenge to really channel the world around us.” Through the lens of a looming epoch and the clarity that comes with age\, TOPS dip into a more sinister disco realm with Bury the Key\, giving their soft-focus sophisti-pop a sharpened edge. \nRIKI\nRiki is the Los Angeles based dark synth-pop outfit commandeered by the mysterious Niff Nawor\, a visual artist and musician active in the deathrock / anarcho-punk scenes of the California bay area (formerly a member of Crimson Scarlet)\, before founding her solo endeavor as Riki in 2017. \nRiki returns with her 2nd simulacrum of pitch-perfect synth-pop\, aptly titled for the precious substance it is: Gold. Inspired by notions of symbolic power\, letting go\, and transmutable realms of the heart\, the album further refines her rare gift for making swooning melancholia as anthemic as it atmospheric. Working with Telefon Tel Aviv co-founder Josh Eustis at his Pasadena studio\, the sessions unfolded fluidly and fruitfully\, focusing on “quieter moments” and refining the record’s palette and voice. Occasional interruption from a nearby flock of wild parrots infused a mood of California dreaming\, purple sunsets dissolving into deepening neon night. \nLike all the most elusive pop\, Riki’s songcraft is simultaneously direct and oblique\, dynamic and detached\, shifting from sparkling chorus to elliptical outro according to its own poetic logic. She characterizes her lyrical muse as “very much what’s going on in my life\, things I wanted to say but didn’t have the platform.” This subcurrent of dream fulfillment animates the melodies with a specificity and immediacy that transcends her pantheon of 80’s influences: from Saâda Bonaire and Strawberry Switchblade to Bryan Ferry\, Bananarama\, and beyond. Gold skews less dance floor than her instant classic 2020 debut but taken as a collection it’s equally stirring\, stylish\, and exquisitely produced. Evocatively layered arrangements of drum machinery\, sequencer\, fretless bass\, grey sky guitar\, saxophone\, and FX\, anchored by Riki’s singular voice\, alternately widescreen and wounded\, yearning beyond time for ecstasies both fleeting and forever: “Thought I knew you\, but you’ve gone far away / it’s not in your nature to stay / but the thought that I need you\, grows stronger every day / the colors begin / to change.”
