DESCRIPTION:A captivating sound & sight night of projected map manipulations by the touring San Francisco-based expanded cinema artist Eric Theise plus an improv set with local audio alchemist Kenneth Cornell and bassist/saxophonist Clifford Grindstaff!  Fans of experimental film and music as well as geo/cartographers\, open data/source enthusiasts\, and just people who like maps won’t want to miss this special evening! \nEric’s tour shows include real time cartographic improvisations using projected\, manipulated digital maps\, in collaboration with local musicians. A visual wash of street grids\, land masses\, water bodies\, and curiosities from built and natural environments. Orphaned labels and free-floating symbology. Auditory roundabouts. Saturated colors and the subtlest of tints. Acoustic cul-de-sacs. Jittery zooms\, pans\, and traversals. Glitches in crowdsourced data.  Theise manipulates projected digital maps in performance with musicians and other time-based artists under the banner A Synesthete’s Atlas–since its 2022 Lisbon premiere it’s been performed in nearly fifty North American and European cities. Theise’s collaboration with composer Shahrzad Talebi was premiered at the end of March by line upon line percussion ensemble as part of CAST’s (Contemporary Art & Sound Technologies) inaugural season at dadaLab in Austin\, Texas\, and he comes to Albuquerque as part of a follow-on tour through Arizona\, New Mexico\, and Colorado. \nKenneth Cornell is a sound artist\, improviser\, and musician from Albuquerque\, New Mexico. He has worked with electronics\, synthesis\, and various instruments over 3 decades now. His performances and installations have been in many independent venues\, concert halls\, night clubs\, galleries and museums across the U.S. and Ireland. \nClifford Grindstaff plays saxophone and bass clarinet with treatments among other instruments.

He has directed 34 films as of 2026. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nCertain elements are commonly found in Hong’s films. A typical Hong film highlights a theme of domestic realism with many of the scenes set on residential streets\, cafes\, hotels\, schools\, and in the stairwells of apartment buildings. Characters are seen walking around the city\, drinking soju\, and having sex. The main characters are often movie directors or actors\, and scenes typically consist of a single shot\, often beginning and ending with a camera zoom.
