He is a member of JACK Quartet\, called “the nation’s most important quartet” by the New York Times and has been praised as a “gifted\, adventuresome violinist” by the Chicago Tribune. Through in-depth collaboration with performers and composers working in a panoply of aesthetic realms\, Austin searches daily for the violin’s voice in today’s musical world. \nAustin’s debut album as composer\, The News From Utopia was released in 2023\, which Austin wrote\, recorded and mixed. His second record\, Escape Rites\, was released with JACK Quartet in 2025. His works have been performed in concert with pianist Conrad Tao at Miller Theater\, by guitarist Alec Goldfarb at the Darmstadt Ferienkurse and Brooklyn’s Roulette Intermedium\, and frequently by JACK Quartet. With JACK\, his works have been performed at such venues as Cal Performances\, Carnegie Hall Summer Stage\, Lincoln Center\, Melbourne Recital Centre\, Musikkollegium Winterthur\, Pierre Boulez Saal\, and Wigmore Hall. \nAs an interpreter\, Austin has played in such renowned venues as the Berlin Philharmonie\, the Elbphilharmonie\, Carnegie Hall\, and the Wiener Konzerthaus\, and featured on such festivals as Tanglewood\, Ojai\, Spoleto\, and Lucerne. Other recordings are on the Naxos\, Telarc and Koch labels\, with a concert DVD published by Mel Bay. David Leisner’s recent seasons have taken him around the US\, Canada\, Mexico\, Europe and Australasia. A frequent performer of chamber music\, he has performed at some of the major festivals around the country and was the Artistic Director of Guitar Plus\, an innovative New York series devoted to chamber music with the guitar. His own compositions\, noted for their emotional and dramatic power\, are performed\, recorded and published worldwide. One of his most recent commissions was the guitar concerto\, Wayfaring\, written for Pepe Romero\, who will record it later this year. Leisner is the Chair of the guitar department at the Manhattan School of Music. He is also author of the book\, Playing with Ease\, published by Oxford University Press.

DESCRIPTION:Peter Sculthorpe Oh\, T.I.\nDavid Leisner Acrobats or Away\nOsvaldo Golijov Fish Tale \nDavid Leisner guitar\nJesse Tatum flute\nJudith Gordon piano \nLauren Camp spoken word \nDavid Leisner\, winner of the Leyenda Foundation’s 2026 Celedonio Romero Lifetime Achievement Award\, is an extraordinarily versatile musician with a multi-faceted career as performing artist\, composer and teacher. “Among the finest guitarists of all time”\, according to American Record Guide\, Leisner is a featured recording artist for the Azica label. Other recordings are on the Naxos\, Telarc and Koch labels\, with a concert DVD published by Mel Bay. David Leisner’s recent seasons have taken him around the US\, Canada\, Mexico\, Europe and Australasia. A frequent performer of chamber music\, he has performed at some of the major festivals around the country and was the Artistic Director of Guitar Plus\, an innovative New York series devoted to chamber music with the guitar. His own compositions\, noted for their emotional and dramatic power\, are performed\, recorded and published worldwide. One of his most recent commissions was the guitar concerto\, Wayfaring\, written for Pepe Romero\, who will record it later this year. Leisner is the Chair of the guitar department at the Manhattan School of Music. He is also author of the book\, Playing with Ease\, published by Oxford University Press.
