LA-based artist and producer Yung Bae might be best known for heralding the rise of Future Funk, stewarding the sub-genre from the underground into a cult-like phenomenon. From anime-themed Tumblr memes to shutting down stages across the world, Yung Bae has an extensive catalog spanning nine albums, including his prolific Bae series and Groove Continental, on which Bae welcomed a multitude of star power into his universe resulting in collaborations with Nile Rodgers, Channel Tres, AWOLNATION, Pink Sweat$, and more.
Yung Bae immediately grabs his listeners with a sound design that dances between 70’s funk and disco, smooth jazz, old school hip-hop and draws influence from ’90s anime and arcade video games. Having grown his niche fanbase through the wonders of the internet and social media, Yung Bae exploded with his viral single “Bad Boy” featuring bbno$ and has continuously evolved his sound while maintaining undeniable grooves. To sift through his nostalgic samples would surely be a day well spent, but it’s the way he brings them together in a colorful, quirky vapor-bounce style that keeps listeners coming back.
