The 1998 surrealist psychological thriller stars Sean Gullette as a mathematician who becomes obsessed with searching for patterns in the universe as part of a quest for meaning.
The production cost was $60,927, with post-production costing an additional $68,183. Along with other expenses, including insurance, the film cost $134,815.
Pi launched the filmmaking career of Aronofsky, as well as the film scoring career of Clint Mansell, a longtime collaborator with Aranofsky.
Two decades after its theatrical release, the rights to the film reverted from back to Aronofsky, who sold it to A42 in 2023. The film has seen a 8k Restoration and audio remaster.
